About Me

Hi, I’m Fannie Banks- Wells a Fiction, Non-Fiction Writer, and Poet. I love stories that address the issues that plague the African American community today. I love African American history as it I have learned that what has occurred in the past, correlates to what is occurring today

What is an “Unclaimed Treasure?

An uncoupled woman (I do not care for the word single ugh!)who is no less than valuable than the married treasures around her.
She lives life to the max whether in a relationship or not.
She spends time being grateful for what she does have instead of focusing on what she does not have.
The Unclaimed Treasure is busy doing work that fulfills her either professionally or maybe as a side gig.
She refuses to be defined by her marital status.

Why the name “Unclaimed Treasure?”

Often when some people talk about uncoupled women they describe them as “oh Fannie she’s single” with a tone of pity. I never cared for that because the “Unclaimed Treasures are anything but pitiful. I think of an unmarried woman the same way you might think of a valuable treasure that has been undiscovered. Just because the treasure is not “claimed” it does not make the treasure any less valuable, special or beautiful.

‘If you’re not happy single, you won’t be happy taken. Happiness comes from within, not from men.’

If you are “unclaimed” you are not alone as 70% of African American women are uncoupled
A shortage of the desirable African American men you crave is not your imagination. Historically a significant number of AfricanAmerican men have been kept separate from the “Unclaimed Treasures”

My Fave Quotes for the Unclaimed Treasure:

“It takes a strong woman to remain single in a world that is accustomed to settling with anything just to say they have something.”

“Stay single until someone actually compliments your life in a way that makes it better not to be single. If not, it’s not worth it.”

“Don’t be a woman that needs a man. Be a woman a man needs.”
